All systems running

The short answer

NETCONFIG is a South African managed IT services provider that supports manufacturers from our head office at 28 Essex Terrace, Westville, Durban, with dedicated technicians supporting clients across South Africa. We manage the IT side of a factory: office and plant-floor networks and Wi-Fi, the servers and cloud systems your ERP runs on, Microsoft 365, backups and cyber security. Every client gets a dedicated IT Manager who plans ahead with you, and we work alongside your machine suppliers wherever IT meets production equipment.

Sound familiar?

The everyday IT headaches we hear from people who run factories.

The line is fine, but nothing can ship

When the ERP, label printers or dispatch PCs go down, finished stock just sits there. An hour of IT downtime is an hour of missed deliveries.

Attackers love a busy factory

IBM's 2026 X-Force Threat Intelligence Index found manufacturing was the most-attacked industry for the fifth year running, at 27.7% of the incidents its team saw in 2025. A stopped line is expensive, and criminals know it.

Unpatched systems are the open window

Sophos's 2025 manufacturing ransomware study found exploited vulnerabilities were the most common way in. Updates aren't glamorous, but they matter.

Power cuts haven't vanished completely

Eskom's 2026 Winter Outlook projected no load-shedding, which is lovely news. Local outages, surges and network faults still happen, and a server that loses power mid-save can corrupt data. Best to plan while things are calm.

Wi-Fi that gives up behind the racking

Steel shelving, long distances and busy forklifts are tough on wireless. Scanners and tablets that keep dropping off slow everyone down.

Backups nobody has tested

A backup only counts if it restores. Finding out on the worst possible day is no fun.

Staff and customer data under POPIA

Payroll, ID numbers, clock-in records and customer details are personal information. Since 1 April 2025, security compromises must be reported to the Information Regulator through its eServices portal.

That old PC running an important machine

It still does its job, but it may be missing years of security updates. We'll help you ring-fence it safely rather than pretend it isn't there.

How getting started works

  1. A friendly chat

Tell us about your plant, your systems and what keeps you up at night.

  2. We walk the floor

We visit your site (or video-call remote plants) to see the network, servers, backups and the bits held together with cable ties.

  3. A plain-English plan

What's risky, what can wait and what it costs. No jargon.

  4. Smooth onboarding

We document everything, set up monitoring and check your backups, scheduled around your shifts, not through them.

  5. Ongoing care

The helpdesk handles day-to-day issues and your IT Manager reviews things with you regularly.

Your own IT Manager (who knows what a shift change is)

Every NETCONFIG client gets a dedicated IT Manager. Think of them as the person who knows your plant's IT inside out: they plan upgrades around your production calendar, keep an eye on risks and meet with you regularly to make sure technology is helping, not holding you back.

Questions manufacturers ask us

What does IT support for a manufacturer include?

It covers day-to-day helpdesk support for your team, proactive monitoring of servers, PCs and network equipment, security updates, cyber security, backups, Microsoft 365, and forward planning with your dedicated IT Manager. The focus is the business IT that keeps orders, stock and dispatch flowing.

Do you work on our machines and production control systems?

We look after the IT side: the networks, PCs, servers and connections your production equipment relies on. For machine controllers and automation software, we work alongside your equipment suppliers or automation engineers so that changes are made safely and nothing on the line is touched without the right people involved.

Can you support our ERP system?

We look after what your ERP depends on: the servers or cloud setup, backups, user access, security and the network. For changes inside the ERP software itself, we work with your ERP vendor or implementation partner.

Load-shedding has paused, so do we still need to plan for power cuts?

Yes, but calmly. Eskom's Winter Outlook for 2026 projected no load-shedding, yet local outages, surges and network faults still happen. A sensible plan includes UPS protection for servers and network equipment, safe automatic shutdowns and backups stored off-site.

What happens if we are hit by ransomware?

The priorities are to contain the attack, restore systems from clean backups and work out what was accessed. If personal information may have been accessed, POPIA requires you to notify the Information Regulator and the affected people as soon as reasonably possible, and we help you gather the facts you need.

Does POPIA apply to a factory?

Yes. If you hold personal information such as employee records, payroll details, clock-in data or customer contacts, POPIA applies. You need reasonable security safeguards, and since 1 April 2025 security compromises must be reported to the Information Regulator through its eServices portal.

Do you support plants outside Durban?

Yes. Our head office is at 28 Essex Terrace, Westville, Durban, and we provide support throughout South Africa through dedicated technicians. On-site visits are arranged in advance.
